Chapter 148: Cheng Yao Came Knocking
After entering the Chinese Academy of Sciences, her research focus changed, and even her living quarters changed.
As a result, she had not even seen Zhou Yao after several days.
This time, the higher-ups were quite anxious about the project, so Xiao Ying did not have time to think about anything else before she threw herself into the experiment.
It was not until half a month later that she ran into Cheng Yao.
Cheng Yao said straightforwardly that he had come to meet her intentionally.
Xiao Ying vaguely guessed what was going on and went to the lounge with Cheng Yao.
Cheng Yao said, “You are a smart child. I think you must have noticed Zhou Yao’s feelings for you.”
Xiao Ying’s silence also expressed her attitude.
Cheng Yao sighed and had no intention of blaming her. After all, love could not be forced.
He said, “Do you have time to visit him? He hasn’t been well recently.”
Xiao Ying clenched her fists and said, “Academician Cheng, so what if I go see him? I’ll just make him fall deeper and deeper.”
Cheng Yao knew this too. But as an uncle, he didn’t want to watch him ruin himself. He had no other choice.
In the end, Cheng Yao did not tell her about Zhou Yao’s situation. He did not want to give Xiao Ying any psychological pressure.
He slowly walked back to Zhou Yao’s dorm and knocked on the door. There was no response.
He panicked and quickly found the spare key to open the door.
Recently, he was worried that something would happen to Zhou Yao, so he had been carrying the spare key to his dorm.
The moment he opened the door, the pungent smell of alcohol greeted him.
The small room was filled with empty alcohol bottles, making it impossible to move.
A man was sitting in the middle of the wine bottles, looking at the ground in a daze.
This scene relieved Cheng Yao. Fortunately, nothing had happened.
Ever since Xiao Ying returned, he had been like this every night. However, no matter how much he drank, he would return to normal by day and calmly conduct his research.
Other than Cheng Yao, no one in the entire Chinese Academy of Sciences noticed anything unusual about him.
Cheng Yao kicked him angrily and said, “You brat, you don’t even dare to meet her and can only hide here and drink.”
Zhou Yao’s expression flickered. He was about to get more wine when Cheng Yao stopped him.
He said, “You want more? Do you want to die?”
Zhou Yao’s face was flushed red from the alcohol. He said incoherently, “Don’t worry about me.”
Cheng Yao shouted, “It’s just a broken heart. And it was one-sided too. What’s there to be sad about? Uncle will find you another one.”
Zhou Yao’s expression became twisted. “What do you know? No one can replace her.”
Cheng Yao suddenly felt a surge of anger. “Wake up! Who hasn’t had their heart broken before? Aren’t I fine now? Time heals everything.”
As he spoke, he picked up a bottle and took a gulp.
Zhou Yao was stunned by his sudden outburst. He stopped asking for more wine. Instead, he tilted his head and fell asleep on the ground.
Cheng Yao ignored him and continued to drink.
The bitterness that had been hidden for years suddenly erupted.
The first ray of sunlight in the morning shone through the window.
The two people who were hugging each other to sleep on the ground frowned at the same time.
They opened their eyes and looked at each other.
At the same time, they screamed.
Zhou Yao quickly got up and said angrily, “Why are you here?”
Cheng Yao was much calmer.
Rubbing his dizzy head, he said, “You were drunk yesterday. If not for me, you would have woken up in the hospital today.”
Zhou Yao could not remember what had happened yesterday. He went to the kitchen and made some hangover soup.
This was the reason why he had been able to do research during the day.
As soon as he was done, Cheng Yao walked in, picked up a bowl, and drank it.
Zhou Yao raised his eyebrows and said, “This is hangover soup. I was the one who was drunk yesterday. Why are you drinking it?”
