Chapter 117: Suburban Military Base
Song Yan swirled his wine glass and asked with interest, “Then… what do you want me to do?”
Qiu Tong zoomed in on the screenshot and asked bluntly, “Do you know of an abandoned military base in S City? It seems to be in the suburbs.”
“Can you find a way to bring me in?”
Qiu Tong probed, “I can pretend to be your guard. With your status, you should be able to help me get in?”
Song Yan suddenly became wary. Qiu Tong could tell from his pause that there was something wrong. She explained, “I want to find out if there are any abandoned helicopters in the military base. If they can be modified, we can hand them over to the farmers…”
“Using a helicopter to spray pesticide can prevent them from getting allergic reactions from being in direct contact with the pesticide.”
Qiu Tong doodled on a piece of white paper and said casually, “This can also increase efficiency.”
“We might be able to keep the locust plague under control right from the start. It would be good for the farmers and us.”
Song Yan raised an eyebrow. He was somewhat doubtful of Qiu Tong’s suggestion. He had some understanding of military equipment and weapons. Modifying a helicopter was extremely difficult!
He tapped his fingers on the desktop, making a tapping sound. “The helicopter design is classified.”
“Ordinary people have never seen it before, much less be able to modify it into a pesticide spraying machine.”
Qiu Tong understood that Song Yan would not believe her just by her words alone. She wanted to try and explain the modification plan in a simple and easy-to-understand way, but ended up saying, “Bring me to see the helicopters. If I can modify them, it will be good for everyone.”
“If I can’t, it won’t be any loss to you either.”
Song Yan raised his index finger to his forehead. He felt that Qiu Tong was very interesting. He replied, “Alright.”
“I can bring you there, but do you dare to make a bet with me?”
“I will lose the bet if you can modify the helicopter. You will lose the bet if you can’t…”
“Whoever loses must fulfill a wish by the other party. As long as the wish does not violate the law or the basic moral principles of the person, it must be satisfied.”
Song Yan narrowed his eyes and asked, “Do you dare?”
Qiu Tong frowned and nodded after a moment of hesitation. “Deal!”
…
The next day at the heavily-guarded abandoned military base in the suburbs, a few officers waited outside with ingratiating expressions.
Song Yan drove the car to the checkpoint with Qiu Tong. The officer guarding the door hurriedly ran over and bowed, “Mr. Song Yan, what brings you here? Is there something urgent?”
Qiu Tong looked at the military equipment behind the huge metal door. She was speechless.
Song Yan pushed open the car door in his military boots and raised his hand for Qiu Tong to help him out. His eyes were cold as he said, “Are there any abandoned helicopters?”
“Bring us over to take a look and prepare some tools for Miss Qiu.”
After Song Yan finished giving his instructions, he looked at Qiu Tong’s profile curiously. He raised his eyebrows and said softly, “Don’t forget our bet.”
Qiu Tong nodded and looked at the officer. “I am looking for a smaller, lighter model that can be modified to spray pesticide for agricultural purposes…”
The officer was stunned. His eyes widened several times, and his pupils were filled with shock and disdain as he smiled and said, “Don’t joke around!”
“These helicopters are used for combat. Do you think you can modify them just like that?”
Song Yan heard his tone and glared at him unhappily. Due to Song Yan’s status, the officers did not dare to say anything else and had no choice but to lead Qiu Tong to the aircrafts.
The officers followed behind, muttering amongst themselves. “Where did Mr. Song Yan meet such a woman?”
“She only knows how to talk big. Does she know what a helicopter is? She even said that she wants to modify it?”
Qiu Tong did not take their mutterings to heart.
The few of them walked to the area where the aircraft were stored. One of the officers introduced the various aircraft to her. “This is a helicopter that was still in active service last year.”
“These are airplane models from more than 10 years ago. The parts are old and can’t be used anymore.”
The officer spoke in a perfunctory manner. Qiu Tong did not listen to his narration at all. She stared at the aircraft carefully and tapped her hands absentmindedly. When she reached a particular aircraft, she stopped in her tracks, her eyes shining.
