Chapter 864 - Finale: Ye Xiaozu x Lu Tianxin (1)
Timeline: Three days before Feng Tianyi and Tang Moyu's wedding ceremony.
It was a windy day when Lu Tianxin went to the cemetery to visit Ye Yimei's grave. Due to her busy schedule, trying to attend to Luo Luo's daily needs while helping Ye Xiaozu with the Ye family matter, she hadn't enough time to see and visit her dear friend for the past three months.
"Sister Yimei, it's been awhile." Lu Tianxin pulled her coat closer toward her body to protect her from the afternoon breeze. Despite her long coat, it was obvious that she had gained some weight, which only made her attractive and not appalling to everyone's eyes.
"I should visit you more often with Luo Luo."
It wasn't like she had forgotten about Ye Yimei now that she had a family of her own because whenever she was with Luo Luo, Lu Tianxin couldn't help but be reminded of her dear friend. She might not be able to visit her grave frequently, but what mattered the most was for her to take care of Luo Luo for Ye Yimei's sake.
At first, Luo Luo had been wary of having his uncle around, but the boy eventually came to accept Ye Xiaozu's presence in their lives. Ye Xiaozu had made sure that in spite of his busy schedule at Ye Corporation, he would be able to allot his weekend to spend time with her and Luo Luo.
It had also made it easy for them to get used to each other when Ye Xiaozu moved in with them. Luo Luo also didn't mind that she was with his biological uncle, as long as Ye Xiaozu would keep his promise to the boy that his uncle wouldn't hurt his 'mommy' again.
Ye Xiaozu taught his nephew things the boy didn't know, such as playing tennis and chess. It turned out that the boy was a pretty good player himself, as Ye Xiaozu hadn't had a hard time teaching him the basics. For the first time, Luo Luo had a father figure he could look up to.
"Don't worry, Sister Yimei. We're doing fine now." Lu Tianxin smiled to herself. Even though she couldn't give Ye Xiaozu a child of their own, she was grateful that he hadn't left her.
It was the one thing Lu Tianxin regretted the most. She had cried several times, apologizing to her husband for her incapacity to give him a child. However, Ye Xiaozu had accepted her regardless of it. It still made Lu Tianxin feel guilty at times, but she learned to slowly accept it and chose to focus on raising Luo Luo instead.
"Tianxin?" a familiar voice called after her.
Lu Tianxin turned around and saw her husband standing behind her with a bouquet of flowers in one hand.
"What are you doing here? I thought you'd have gone to see Tang Moyu and her friends?" Ye Xiaozu asked.
"I thought I'll give Sister Yimei a quick visit before I meet them," she said in response. "What about you? You're done working for today?" she asked.
Ye Xiaozu brought down the flowers he was holding and stood next to her.
"I intended to leave for lunch, but I remembered I haven't paid her a visit this month. I would have gone with you if I knew you'd be here too."
If he hadn't come back and reunited with Lu Tianxin, he would have known what regret was. He was aware of the things he selfishly did in the past, blaming people around him for his f.u.c.k.e.d up life and his dysfunctional family that had dragged Lu Tianxin into it.
If he could change the past, he would make sure to become not only a better brother to his sister, but also be a better man for Lu Tianxin. He had been furious at the world for taking everything from him without knowing what had truly happened in his absence.
As he looked at his sister's headstone, he was reminded yet again how he failed to protect her. Everything he thought he knew before had been proven wrong. To say that he was disappointed was an understatement. Ye Yimei should have known that he would never betray her for their father and would have helped her to the best of his ability.
"Do you still blame yourself?" Lu Tianxin asked when she noticed the sadness in his eyes. "Please don't. I know Sister Yimei only wanted the best for you back then."
"But I should have known." Ye Xiaozu smiled bitterly, as tears streamed down his face. He would never get over his sister's death and if he did, he was sure it would take him a long time to make peace with himself.
He'd been a colossal fool to allow Lu Tianxin to suffer on her own, raising his nephew. She was a selfless woman that had kept her promise to his sister until this day. She didn't think twice and took in a child that wasn't hers regardless of what other people would think of her.
Lu Tianxin might be worried about her not being able to have a child, but for Ye Xioazu, it didn't matter anymore as long as they were together. He had no right to use it against her. In fact, he still thought that he didn't deserve someone like Lu Tianxin, but he was selfish enough to keep her.
Since Luo Luo came off as a decent child, he also had no doubt that his wife was a good mother. He would rather focus on raising his nephew with her if it was really impossible for the two of them to produce a child.
Lu Tianxin's eyes softened and reached out to wipe the tears from his face. It was still hard for him not to cry whenever he thought of his dead sister. She knew that just like her, Ye Xiaozu dropped by for a visit here whenever he needed some peace and clarity from all the things that happened in their lives.
"Sister, since Tianxin and I are here standing in front of you, let me make a promise this time." Ye Xiaozu took a hold of his wife's hand and gave it a light squeeze. "I promise to make Tianxin happy as long as I live."
He then faced his wife, leaning forward to rest his forehead against hers.
"Tianxin, don't forget, my heart is forever yours."
