Chapter 855 - Finale: Song Fengyan x Luo Qingqing (3)
Lan Xiyan wasn't able to get a good night's sleep that night and woke up a little disgruntled. She had been on the edge on how she should face the rumors that not only affected her work but also put her daughter into the spotlight. She feared that people would attack her daughter and she wouldn't be able to protect her.
However, as she stepped outside her room, she realized that they had a guest that morning. Her whole body shivered when her eyes saw a familiar face that was talking to her daughter early that morning in their living area.
What the hell was Song Xingji doing here?! Lan Xiyan screamed in her head upon seeing the person who had chased her away years ago.
Did she come here to take Lan Yunru away from her?
The thought made Lan Xiyan shiver in fear. She was willing to let go of her career, willing to give up anything but not her child— never her child. She would die if the Song family took her daughter away from her.
Lan Yunru was the first one who noticed her standing in the hallway blankly. The little girl smiled brightly and ran towards her mother, wrapping her small arms on Lan Xiyan's t.h.i.g.h.
"Mommy, Auntie came to see me today," Lan Yunru said excitedly. "Can she stay with us for lunch, Mommy?"
Lan Xiyan looked at the Song siblings nervously, then to her daughter's smiling face. She wasn't surprised that her little dumpling was able to win even the cold-hearted Song Xinji's favor. Her Little Yunyun really had such a feat using her charm.
"Sure. I'll ask Auntie Yu to cook more for us today," she replied, forcing a smile on her face so Lan Yunru wouldn't worry about her.
"Yay! I will find Auntie Yu and tell her myself!" Lan Yunru's pattering feet made way to the other bedroom to find her nanny, leaving her mother with her daddy and Song Xingjie.
Song Fengyan looked unusually silent next to his sister, and had a conflicted expression on his face which Lan Xiyan didn't fail to notice. Was he even aware of the problem his older sister just resolved?
"Miss Lan, why don't you take a seat? Please join us. I would like a word with you," Song Xinjie smiled at Lan Xiyan, who was visibly trembling from where she stood.
Lan Xiyan glanced at Song Fengyan before forcing herself to walk forward, taking a seat to the couch while Song Xingjie poured herself another cup of tea. She looked sophisticated in her dark gray business suit, making her more intimidating in Lan Xiyan's eyes.
"I suppose you know by now what happened last night and how it vanished into thin air like it never happened," Song Xinji started, effectively getting the attention of the actress seated next to her brother.
Looking at the two, she realized that they haven't reconciled and gotten back together. Perhaps, they were only seeing each other like this for Lan Yunru's sake. Song Xinji sighed inwardly. These two blockheads obviously weren't over to each other, so why were they hesitating to pick up where they left off?
Lan Xiyan swallowed the lump in her throat, her hands unconsciously gripping her skirt. Song Xinji didn't need to say out loud that the Song family had dealt with the problem, not to protect her but her daughter.
"Thank you for helping our Yunyun." She lowered her head and thanked Song Xinji. No matter how she perceived the Song family, it wouldn't change the fact that they had done a great deal for her and her daughter this time.
"We were able to stop the malicious rumors from spreading, but I regret to inform you that it wouldn't stop people from talking about it behind your back," Song Xinji informed her.
"I understand." Lan Xiyan nodded in understanding. She knew well that there was still a problem she had to deal with on her own later. Song Xinji had just stopped it from getting out of hand, but that didn't mean people would easily forget what they had seen last night.
The Song family might be able to protect Lan Yunru from the public, but it was a different case to her as an actress. People would use the issue against her to ruin her reputation, but it didn't matter now.
"You don't have to thank me. Take it as a peace offering after what I've done to you and Fengyan in the past." Song Xinji gave Lan Xiyan an apologetic look. Lan Xiyan and their Little Yunyun wouldn't experience hardship in life like this only if she hadn't forced her brother to split with Lan Xiyan.
"Whether you like it or not, Lan Yunru is now part of the Song family. Our parents have been upset that people were talking about her without knowing the truth. We're not forcing you to give up on acting to protect your daughter, but we would be grateful if you can keep away the public attention to Yun'er."
"You don't have to get involved with this, Xin Jie. It's my responsibility to protect Xiyan and Yunyun," Song Fengyan countered.
He had found out about the scandal too late, and his elder sister was the one who made sure to block the rumors. Song Fengyan was sure his sister had only done it for Yunyun and not because she wanted to help Lan Xiyan with her problem.
If his daughter wasn't involved with the scandal, Song Xinji would never intervene to help Lan Xiyan at all. His daughter was now recognized as part of their family, so it only made sense why Song Xinji intervened to protect Lan Yunru.
"I wasn't planning to drag Yunyun on this. I've been very careful whenever I was with her, but I knew this day would eventually come. I'm not hiding her because I was ashamed of her. " She lifted her head and stared back at Song Xinjie with fire in her eyes. Lan Xiyan wouldn't back down easily when it came to her daughter.
