Chapter 852 - Finale: He Lianchen x Gu Yuyao (4)
He Lianchen didn't expect that seeing Gu Yuyao in her work mode would be enticing and seductive at the same time. Something about how she focused on her work made her look appealing to his eyes that he'd never seen in other women he met in the past.
He easily got used to a routine with his wife. Every morning, Gu Yuyao would check the stock market on her tablet while having breakfast with him. Gu Yuyao hadn't forgotten her interest in work even when she was now a mother of a hyperactive baby.
At night, when he came home from work, they usually had dinner together and tucked their baby to bed just the same before they caught up on whatever happened on He Lianchen's day while he was out. They usually watched TV or played games together before they retired for the night.
Gu Yuyao was aware of his presence next to her, reminding her that she wasn't alone anymore. She had someone to rely on and would keep her safe from any harm. She gave him a flirty wink while he scoffed in return. With their young son still asleep in the early hours of the morning, it gave the two enough time to spend with each other.
"You know, Yaoyao, you don't have to do this…" He Lianchen told her as she compared the doc.u.ments and financial reports in front of her.
"Why not?" Gu Yuyao asked back. She cradled her chin on her palm. "If I can help you and your brother, I don't mind doing all the auditing on my own."
"But this would take weeks even for you, Yaoyao." Her husband pointed out.
Initially, he was planning on getting expert opinion and auditing the financial reports of the He Company. This would lessen the work his older brother had at the moment, allowing He Lianxuan to focus on another more important task. He Lianxuan was already knee-deep in his paperwork, so it was only natural for He Lianchen to help him at this crucial time.
"Ha! Don't underestimate me, Lianchen!" Gu Yuyao huffed at him. "Why do you think Moyu hired me as the CFO of Tang Enterprise before? If someone is aware of how good I am, it should be Tang Moyu!"
He Lianchen arched a brow on her.
"So you mean to say you are better than the empress?" which only earned a shrug from his wife.
"I can't say I'm better than her." Gu Yuyao hummed as she lightly pressed her pen on her chin. "But I have to say Moyu is the only person I know that could beat me when it comes to the accuracy of the numbers."
"She's that good?" He Lianchen, of course, heard several things about the empress. When he met her the first time, Tang Moyu earned his respect—not because she became acquainted with the devil—but because of how decisive and aggressive she was when it came to running the Tang Enterprise.
"Moyu was forced to work as a freelancer when we were in the States because she was having a hard time declining the offers of several companies who wanted to poach her. But it works for her, I could tell. It allowed her to earn more than what she could get from those companies."
Ah, no wonder Tang Moyu was able to raise such a hefty amount of trust fund for her twins, but it still surprised He Lianchen to know that Gu Yuyao was on the same level as the empress.
"So how much time and work is left for us to know how bad the situation is?" he asked his wife.
"Not that much. I'm about to finish it soon." Gu Yuyao gave him a bland smile. The kind of smile she would always give her clients. She didn't want to give her husband false hope, but she could tell that it wouldn't be easy for him or his brother to fix the damage their second uncle left on their company.
She wanted to be certain of the real status of his family business before she told him and his brother how bad the situation was.
The doc.u.ment He Lianchen gave her indicated that the He Company was paying their shareholders and employees on time, but the cash flow implied that it wouldn't take long before the company reached the point where they wouldn't be able to pay anymore, forcing them to file for bankruptcy soon.
The He brothers would have to work hard to avoid it. However, the more Gu Yuyao worked on the audit, the more she saw inconsistencies in the records. Several material facts were missing from the records. If one wasn't smart enough to read the accounts, they wouldn't notice that the company was losing money.
"It's Sunday. Why don't you take a break today, Yaoyao?" He offered. She'd been working on those papers for almost five days now.
Gu Yuyao jerked her head up and hummed.
"Sure. I don't see why not, but what are we going to do today?" she asked, glancing outside the window and saw that today wasn't too hot for a walk.
"Should we go out with Jue and visit your brother?" He Lianchen suggested.
Gu Yuyao brought down the papers she was reading and stared at him for a moment before her face broke into a smile.
"Sure. I would love that." She would usually visit her brother's tomb with their son, but this was the first time He Lianchen would join them.
Gu Yuyao had met a lot of people in her life, and it was only He Lianchen who was patient enough to understand her. Before, she could only rely on her brother when he was still alive; however, when he died, she thought that she would never meet a man who could be as patient as him… until she met her husband.
'Brother, I'm not alone anymore.'
