Chapter 820 - I’m Nothing Like Him (2)
Meanwhile, Song Fengyan had brought his young daughter to the banquet, accompanying the Tang twins once they were done being introduced to everyone by their grandmother. Even Huo Yunhao had arrived today with his grandfather to represent their family.
The four children were busy talking in the lounge area when a familiar woman came to greet Song Fengyan. It was his elder sister, Song Xingji, whom he hadn't seen since his last visit to her.
The woman glanced at Lan Yunru's way, taking in her niece's appearance. The girl lifted her head when she felt someone looking at her and smiled bashfully when she saw Song Xingji looking at her.
"She looks like her mother," her aunt commented.
"Why are you here, Sis?" Song Fengyan asked.
The reason why he kept his distance from his sister was to protect Lan Yunru and her mother. With Luo Qingqing's soaring career in show business, she could not afford to get involved with a scandal that could ruin her.
"Why can't I be here?" Song Xingji asked in return. "I'm a Song. Shouldn't I be here?"
Song Fengyan's throat felt parched. He wanted to protect his daughter from his family as he wasn't sure how they would react upon knowing about Lan Yunru's existence. He even hesitated before if he should add her in his family record without the Song family coming to him to probe about it.
He knew well that by bringing Lan Yunru with him would attract everyone's attention, questioning the child's identity. He already gained his Aunt Huifen's approval to register his daughter as part of the Song family.
While his relationship with Luo Qingqing was better now, he didn't want to cause her any more trouble than he already had in the past. It was his family who had driven her away from him. Who was to say that they wouldn't do it again by taking the custody of Lan Yunru from her mother this time?
"Calm down, Fengyan. I'm not planning anything bad towards your daughter or Lan Xiyan," his sister said as if she could sense his nervousness. "And you should know by now that bringing your daughter here is like announcing to the whole family that you have a child out of wedlock."
Song Fengyan couldn't refute her claim. Of course, he knew that but he could not hide the truth about Lan Yunru forever. Song Fengyan didn't want her to think that he was ashamed of her nor her mother and that's why he still hadn't married Lan Xiyan and allowed his daughter to use his family name.
"Dad already knew about her," his sister informed him. "Your fear is unfounded. You should give Mom and dad a call and introduce your daughter. I'm sure they are looking forward to meeting her."
Song Fengyan furrowed his brows at that.
"Then why haven't they asked me about her yet?"
If their parents already knew, shouldn't they have summoned him and asked him to bring Lan Yunru with him? He thought.
Song Xingji sighed and crossed her arms on her midsection. A smile curled her lips as she saw Lan Yunru giggle about something Huo Yunhao told her.
"Fengyan, you should know by now how Mom and Dad dote on you," she reminded him, giving him a pointed look.
When they were young, Song Fengyan almost got away with everything because their parents never stopped him from doing everything he wanted to. Wasn't that why, as his elder sister, Song Xingji had to clean up after his mess?
"I know what I did in the past is wrong, Fengyan. I wronged you." She sighed. "And for what it's worth, I'm truly sorry, but please allow Mom and Dad to meet Lan Yunru. I'm sure they would be thrilled to meet her."
Song Fengyan released a breath he didn't know he was holding. He felt relief knowing that his sister had accepted his daughter and admitted her mistakes.
"You already have a niece, Sis. I thought you would want a family of your own too," he told his sister.
"Why would I want a family of my own?" Song Xingji asked, stunned to hear her brother talk about her future.
"Because you are always looking after me and our parents, I assumed you'd like to have one if you didn't want to work anymore." As their family's only son, Song Xingji's responsibilities and position at Qing Tian Group should be his.
"Even if I didn't choose for a career at Qing Tian group, I wouldn't want a family. I only want to see you and our parents faring well. As for me, don't worry about it. Having children and raising a family aren't the only options a woman could have in this generation." She smiled at her brother.
Who said that women like her could only be housewives? Even if she decided not to marry and have a family, Song Xingji was certain that she would be fine on her own.
Lan Yunru ran towards them to talk to her father but found him speaking with the woman who was looking at her before.
"Hello, little one. I've been looking forward to finally meeting you." Song Xingji leaned forward and greeted the young girl. 'I'm your Daddy's sister, I'm your aunt."
Lan Yunru's wavy hair that reached her waist was now tied behind her back, with a huge ribbon keeping it away from her adorable face. At the age of seven, her height was still shorter compared to the Tang twins and Huo Yunhao, making her the shortest kid in their group.
She clung to her father's hand and greeted Song Xingji.
"Hello, Auntie. Daddy told me so much about you," the girl replied shyly.
"Really?" Song Xingji glanced at her brother in surprise. She hadn't expected that Song Fengyan would talk about her. "What did he say? I hope your Daddy said nice things or else, Auntie would be upset with him."
Song Fengyan sighed and ran his fingers on his hair. He was worrying too much. He should have known better that his daughter could easily wrap anyone around her finger with how sweet and gentle she was.
