What was it with the Vedova Nera family? How was it that out of all the options, Alonso had chosen them. More importantly, why had Cain decided it would be a good idea to visit the mafioso's boss?
Cain's fingers strummed against his thigh, a mixture of agitation and annoyance. He loved a good brawl just as much as anyone else in his group did. What stared back in front of him, however, could've hardly been called a mere brawl if anything should happen. action
Marcus and Richard continued to exchange words, but the rising tension didn't go amiss by the mercenary. There had been quite a few people that Cain had gotten the pleasure of meeting over the years. Mercenary work allowed for shifting between mafia, thugs, petty criminals, crooked businessmen, and politicians. The best part was no one on any of the other sides was allowed to touch a mercenary. Special protection and all that.
Cain licked his bottom lip, his eyes consistently shifting between the two men. Over the years of meeting so many different people, the mercenary learned a lot of things. Such as being able to tell who was a sane man who poised little danger beyond an inflated ego and who was the insane one who only pretended to have their full head about them. Right now, Cain could tell he was staring down two of the same kind which spelled trouble.
When the flood gates break, and how they would, it wouldn't just be hell coming through. No, the devil himself would be at the front line. In fact, one didn't have to look far to who exactly the devil was. Well, this certainly hadn't turned out to be the fun time that he had been hoping for. Cain shifted closer to Samuel once more to try and nudge the other out to leave. So long as no one was watching them, getting out of the room would be simple and easy. Leaving leaving was out of the option. At least for the kid. Really though, they only needed a little bit of space for Cain to figure things out.
"I know you think that you should be here right now but that a bad idea." Simple nudges didn't appear to help make the kid change his mind. He didn't even so much as blink as he watched Richard and Marcus. Wasn't he supposed to be one of the least complicated ones? A Vedova Nera, yes but one who hadn't grown up within the family.
"I don't think that I should be here, I know that I need to be for right now. Where else exactly do you imagine I would?" The words rang out sharper than what he expected for the seemingly docile young man. Did the kid have more of a backbone to him than Cain gave him credit for? The Mercenary cut glances over at the kid between watching the other two mafioso to try and see what was going through his mind. Whatever it was, it couldn't have been anything that logical or else he'd have left on his own accord already.
"I don't have an exact idea in mind, but I do imagine it would be somewhere safer than this." Cain tried to keep his voice. Richard likely wouldn't pay attention but Marcus? Oh, that man likely always kept one ear focused on everything else around him. In fact, he probably had one eye watching them as well.
"You can leave then." With those simple words, Samuel made what the mercenary would consider bold yet dumb as shit move towards the danger zone. Oya, did the kid have some kind of death wish? Cain watched; his mouth slightly ajar. Words stuck in his mouth as the desire for self-preservation won out over the annoying drip of conscience he had. With a sharp grumble of annoyance, Cain turned away. Fucks this. He'd just leave on his own if that was the choice Samuel was going to make. After all, ti was the kid's family. He could do whatever he wanted without it being Cain's issue. Instead, the mercenary would just leave to go about doing whatever it was that Marcus requested. That would at least ensure he didn't get on the other guy's bad side assuming he had a good side.
Except the mercenary never quite made it to leave. He ended up stalling right outside the door that Marcus originally came through. The 'what will happen?' thought froze him in place despite his strong desire to leave. Hi feet remained stubbornly glued in place as his ears strained to listen. Was no sound good sound? Or did that indicate everything had already come to a head? The mercenary's breathing slowed down to an almost non-existent point, cut down on any additional background noise. Damn him. Why did he got about closing the door? Jovani must have made it so that the shut door muted the noise coming from the other side.
Oh but how Cain wished that wasn't the case. Clever to avoid people listening who shouldn't but problematic for noisy mercenaries such as himself. Especially since he couldn't afford to go about opening the door again.
Knowing he couldn't afford to open the door again without attracting unwanted attention, Cain leaned against it instead. Resting the side of his head to get a better shot at hearing. Pity the only thing he kept in his pocket was his gun. A glass would've come quit in hand at the current moment in time.
Cain didn't have to grumble for long before he could clearly hear the voices in the other Room. At least that meant that no one had died. Yet at least. Being able to hear, the mercenary began to do a mental count down. How long before everything ended up elevating even further?
"Marcus, you aren't the original person who was put in charge of this. Even if Jovani isn't here, the next in command would technically be me. Not you. Are you not going to fall in line behind that?"
Oh. Someone had definitely snapped.
