Chapter 49 : Chapter 049: Fame Spreads like Wildfire
Yang Zhen’s action of accepting a task was utterly unexpected. With his swift movement, the crowd didn’t even have an opportunity to react. Before a gasp of surprise could escape their lips, the paper was already in Yang Zhen’s hands. Inside the grand hall of the Changyue Tower, everyone halted in their tracks, staring in awe at Yang Zhen and the paper he held.
In the midst of the stunned crowd, Ma Yuan was the most shocked of all. Yang Zhen’s words, “I am the most low profile person,” still echoed in his ears. Ma Yuan hadn’t even had the chance to process this outrageous claim before Yang Zhen smacked Ding Keqi across the face, infuriating a person everyone in
Flame City didn’t dare to cross.
If Lan Fangyue hadn’t intervened in time, Yang Zhen would likely have already been killed by Ding Keqi.
The incident wasn’t over yet. In front of everyone present, Yang Zhen audaciously accepted a particularly perilous task that no one else dared to take.
Was Yang Zhen actually insane?
Low profile? He was anything but!
When the task was first posted, many tried their hand at it merely on a whim, as most people harbored no delusion of fully comprehending the Martial Skills.
After all, even the revered prodigy, Hua Youyue, the master of Changyue Tower, couldn’t fully grasp the Martial skills. How could an ordinary person easily decipher them?
Aside from those who were seeking a stroke of luck, those who accepted the task were primarily fueled by curiosity. Many considered it intriguing; a Martial Skill that had confounded Hua Youyue.
But now, following some unexpected fatalities, no one dare accept the task anymore.
Since many had previously attempted the task with virtually no progress from that single clue given, Changyue Tower decided to reveal 90% of the Martial Skill content. Aside from the highlighted parts that didn’t need deciphering, if anyone could solve even a single sentence among the rest, they could join Changyue Tower, at least as a silver-grade guest.
Upon hearing this news, another person accepted the task. He was also the sole person who had a sudden violent death in the secret chamber after perusing 90% of the Martial Skill content.
Since then, everyone in Flame City understood that this divine-level Martial Skill was not something an ordinary person could study. In other words, accepting this task meant risking one’s life.
Lan Fangyue watched Yang Zhen with a dubious expression and asked in surprise, “Do you understand what you’ve just done?”
Yang Zhen knew exactly what he had done. He had faintly heard rumors about Changyue Tower’s Martial Skills. However, he had utter confidence in his intelligence and was curious about what kind of Martial Skills could be so deadly to simply look at.
Besides, those were divine-level Martial Skills. Yang Zhen wasn’t going to pass up such an opportunity – freebies were always the sweetest, after all.
“Am I not allowed to accept?” Yang Zhen looked at Lan Fangyue: “I thought they were posted here for people to take.”
Lan Fangyue looked at Yang Zhen incredulously: “You can take it, but once you
do, you might die.”
“I know that!” Yang Zhen replied nonchalantly.
“You…” Lan Fangyue was taken aback, then pouted: “You might not understand the danger involved. I’ve been considering this task for a while now, but even I don’t dare to take it.”
Yang Zhen casually replied, “So you believe your comprehension isn’t high enough?”
Low comprehension?
Upon hearing this, everyone present was stunned.
“What a joke! If Lady Lan has low comprehension, then who in all of Flame City has high comprehension?”
-Where’s this man from? Is he a fool? Even a fool would know that Lady Lan has the highest level of comprehension among the younger generation in Flame City, hence her nickname ‘Blue Moon’.”
An enraged crowd lashed out at Yang Zhen while Ma Yuan forced a bitter smile. He didn’t dare to step in, only hoping that Yang Zhen would know when to stop, or at least realise his own limitations.
Discussing comprehension in front of Lan Fangyue and Ding Keqi was absurdly laughable.
Ding Keqi suddenly burst into laughter, looking at Yang Zhen and said, “I thought I was the most arrogant person in Flame City, but it appears you outshine me. You are the first to ever claim Blue Moon has low comprehension.
Just for that, I won’t kill you now.”
Lan Fangyue shot Yang Zhen a resentful glance and let out a cold humph, apparently quite irritated by Yang Zhen’s words.
Yang Zhen seemed oblivious to Lan Fangyue’s annoyed expression and looked at Ding Keqi and said, “Are you stupid? When you brag in the future, consider your surroundings. We’re in Changyue Tower now. Even if you wanted to kill me right now, could you? Come on, show me how you’re going to kill me.” “You…” At Yang Zhen’s words, Ding Keqi’s face turned livid, and he was lost for words.
Lan Fangyue burst into laughter and glanced at Yang Zhen, “You really know how to make enemies everywhere. Since you’ve taken the task, come with me.” Ding Keqi scoffed, “Don’t worry, whether I kill you now or not is irrelevant. You will inevitably die once you’re in the chamber.”
Yang Zhen laughed heartily. Amidst the stupefied audience, he followed Lan Fangyue up to the tower, remarking, “I don’t have many redeeming qualities. My only asset is my gifted intelligence. With such enticing Martial Skills at my disposal, only a fool would refuse.”
What the hell?
When the crowd heard Yang Zhen’s words, all of Changyue Tower’s inhabitants were dumbstruck.
“What does he mean?”
“Are you stupid? He’s implying we’re all fools.”
“But those are indeed powerful Martial Skills. They are divine-level Martial Skills that we may never see in our lifetime.”
“Move aside, you’re a real idiot. Even if it’s a divine-level Martial Skill, you need to be alive to learn it.”
“Oh!”
“Idiot!”
“Dare to insult me again?”
“What, fool, you want to fight?”
“You, get lost!”
At Yang Zhen’s words, Ding Keqi’s face darkened, grinding his teeth in fury. This was outrageous! Yang Zhen was insufferable. Not only were his actions out of line, his words were even worse.
Even Lan Fangyue, who was still climbing up the stairs, stumbled and shot Yang Zhen a bewildered look.
Quickly averting his gaze from Lan Fangyue, Yang Zhen casually scanned the surroundings.
“You…” A vexed Lan Fangyue declared, her eyes flashing dangerously: “Keep your eyes to yourself, or, even with Changyue Tower’s rules, I’ll gouge your eyes out.”
Yang Zhen jumped, looking guilty, “What, are we not allowed to look around randomly in Changyue Tower? Fine, I won’t look anymore.”
Lan Fangyue:”…”
Yang Zhen straightened up and hurriedly followed the quick-paced Lan Fangyue upstairs.
The news of Yang Zhen offending Ding Keqi and accepting the Changyue Tower task swept across Flame City like a storm.
Countless practitioners were dumbfounded upon hearing the news.
There were many out-of-town practitioners in Flame City now, and the two pieces of advice they heard most often after arriving were to avoid offending the Ding and Lan families. The most interesting gossip revolved around a mysterious Martial Skill located in Changyue Tower that no one had been able to understand.
These two pieces of news were constantly circulating and even seemed more intriguing than the trials of the three kingdoms and the opening of the ninth level of the Nine Realms Exquisite Tower.
So, when they heard about Yang Zhen, they were left astounded. Quick-witted folks soon began referring to him as ‘The Eminent Madman of Flame City’. “Humph, Eminent Madman, my foot. He must be an insane fool. Offending Ding Keqi in Flame City is equivalent to offending the whole Ding family. I bet he’ll drop dead mysteriously before the trials of the three kingdoms begin.” “You’re overthinking. We’ll likely hear news of his sudden death tomorrow.” “I heard the Flower Tower Master is coming back soon. I wonder if she 11 be back in time to see him attempt to comprehend the Martial Skills.”
“What, the Flower Tower Master is coming back?” The news took everyone by surprise: “I heard the Flower Tower Master is incredibly beautiful. If I get a chance to see her, this trip would have been worth it..”
